The Personas

The Personas is a series of artworks featuring four characters inspired by Kiv Bui’s inner personas, developed throughout her life. These personas emerged subconsciously during periods centered on survival, responsibility, and the pursuit of stability. During this time,

she balanced her personal needs with the pressure of meeting family expectations while living independently far away from them at an early age, studying and working toward a sustainable and fulfilling creative career.

As she entered a more peaceful stage of life in her early thirties, she began to explore these personas with greater intention. While The Lost Soul Kingdom reflects her inner world, The Personas represent her outer world. Like many people, Kiv Bui adapted as she moved through different environments, communities, and expectations. These shifts were natural responses to living independently and learning to move forward without consistent emotional support.

Each character reflects a different version of herself, which she later recognized as key stages in her identity development. She refined their designs, strengthened their concepts, and developed individual narratives for each persona: Olevy, Love, Evol, and VVV—each drawn from distinct phases of her growth.

Interestingly, while developing The Personas, Kiv noticed the similarities to her favorite childhood anime character, Naruto (1999), especially his Shadow Clone Jutsu (影分身の術). Just like Naruto creates clones to train, fight, and keep him company, her personas act as companions that support, interact, and grow with her. Like Naruto, she became emotionally independent at a young age, learning to deal with struggles alone when she felt misunderstood. Those early feelings of loneliness and isolation did not disappear with time, success, or community; they remained part of her.

However, Kiv still appreciates both her childhood and her present self. She learned to transform her struggles into something constructive—turning isolation into strength, creativity, and connection; misunderstanding into acceptance; and absence into presence. Alone, but never fully lonely.

Kiv eventually developed these four personas into a creative project titled The Personas: A Multi-Concept Girl Group. In this concept, they exist as a group of close friends and colleagues with an unbreakable bond—supporting one another, working together, expressing themselves synchronously under different creative concepts, and moving forward through life as a collective.
